Focus will be on marketplace health insurance and Stop the Bleed

November 14, 2019

NORTON, Kan. – Norton County Hospital is hosting two free educational sessions for the public on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The first will be focused on Health Insurance Marketplace options and enrollment for 2020. The second event will provide Stop the Bleed training.

Peggy Ritter, a health insurance certified navigator from Hoxie Medical Clinic, will be presenting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Norton County Hospital board room, where participants can expect to hear about the current choices available, differences among plan options and how to enroll. She will help enroll people in health insurance coverage on-site earlier in the day by appointment. For insurance coverage to begin Jan. 1, 2020, patients need to enroll in the marketplace by Dec. 15, 2019.

If you are wanting to enroll on-site, plan to bring a personal laptop if you have one. If you are interested in setting up an appointment with Peggy Ritter, contact her at 785-677-4172. If you plan to attend the presentation starting at 5:30 p.m., please consider an RSVP by Wednesday, Nov. 27, to Katie Allen at the hospital at 785-877-3351 or kallen@ntcohosp.com.

From 6:30-7:30 p.m., Julia Thompson, BSN, RN at the hospital, will lead a Stop the Bleed course, where participants can expect to learn the basics of bleeding control. The Stop the Bleed campaign is meant to make people more resilient by understanding how to save lives if others nearby are severely bleeding. This event will take place in the Norton County Hospital conference room. To sign up, contact Julia Thompson at the hospital at 785-877-3351 or jthompson@ntcohosp.com.

Walk-ins for both events are welcome. The hospital’s board and conference rooms are located on the lower level. We recommend parking in the clinic parking lot, located at 807 N. State St., and enter through the clinic entrance. Participants should look for an event sign to direct them to the correct door to enter.
